Helm problems |
Q. Why does my helmet ring?
A. Your helm rings because it is hard without being brittle. If it makes a 'thud' kind of noise (without any padding) it is soft. Soft helmets dent. Hard helmets protect your head from dents!
Q. How do I get rid of the ring?
|
A. We have found 2 methods that seem to work very
well.
1) stick a refrigerator magnet on the inside of the helm, then pad it and see if it is going to work for you. 2) spray on rubberized undercoating. it's a mess, but if you let it dry completely the ring should be gone. |
Q. My helm rusted, why is that & what can I do about it?
A. Your helm is made of mild steel. (Stainless steel doesn't rust.) It rusts and scratches. You can sand of the rust and then coat it with a protective coating (we like crisco) or you can use a rust sealing primer and then paint it.
Q. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO STRAP MY HELM!
A. A helm strap should pull the helm straight down adequately tight and should not pull to the front or the back. You must make sure you are keeping the helm centered on your head at all times!
Q. HOW DO I INSTALL AN UNDER - THE - CHIN HELM STRAP?
This method has the strap going under the jaw line.
FIRST - pad the helm top so it sits straight on your head. then take it back off again.
SECOND - With the helm off, have a friend take aim at one of your ear lobes with a "Sharpie" or felt tip marker
THIRD - WITHOUT MOVING YOUR HEAD out of position, place the padded helm squarely on your head & have your friend places a mark on the outside of the helm at a point corresponding to your ear lobe.
FOURTH - remove the helm, measure the distance from the front of the helm and the bottom of the helm to the mark
FIFTH -Transfer the mark to the other side using the measurements from step 4. These points should be the correct locations to mount your straps
LASTLY - center punch the marks and drill or punch holes the size required for your fasteners
